Every addiction has a different origin. Genetics, trauma, chronic pain, mental health conditions, environmental pressure. The substance may vary, but the underlying need for structured, professional care stays the same. Effective treatment doesn't rely on a single technique. It draws on multiple clinical disciplines, adapts to the individual, and addresses the full picture of what drives substance use.
At the Canadian Centre for Addictions, our addiction treatment services are built on this principle. Your care begins with a thorough medical and psychological evaluation conducted by our team of three physicians, registered psychotherapists, and certified addiction counsellors. They examine your substance use history, mental health status, physical condition, and personal circumstances before recommending a treatment path. Nothing gets assigned by default.
Our clinical model combines established addiction treatment methods with practical wellness support. Individual counselling targets the root causes of dependency. Group therapy builds accountability and peer connection. Psychoeducation teaches you how addiction rewires the brain and how to recognise triggers before they lead to relapse. Mindfulness, yoga, fitness training, art therapy, and guided nature walks fill out a daily schedule designed to heal the body alongside the mind.
Our programs also address what's happening beneath the substance use. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions fuel dependency in ways that treating the addiction alone can't resolve. Our psychotherapists work with you on both fronts simultaneously, so one doesn't undermine the other during recovery.
Addiction programs Ontario residents can access at CCFA range from intensive residential stays to flexible outpatient arrangements. Residential programs run 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 days at our two facilities: Hillcrest Mansion in Port Hope and Woodlawn Inn in Cobourg. Both locations feel more like private retreats than clinical wards, with chef-prepared meals, private suites, lake views, and grounds designed for quiet reflection.
For those who need to maintain work or family responsibilities, our outpatient program provides the same evidence-based therapy on a flexible schedule. And for families affected by a loved one's addiction, our Family Program delivers dedicated counselling, education, and peer support that runs parallel to the residential stay.
Rehab programs at CCFA also include specialised tracks for medical detox, intervention counselling, and newer modalities like SMART Recovery and cognitive-behavioural therapy. Each program connects to the others, so your care team can build a treatment path that covers every stage from intake through discharge planning.
Accredited by Accreditation Canada since 2018, our addiction treatment programs meet the highest clinical standards in the country. Through our research partnership with the University of Toronto, we're contributing to a six-year study on how recovery affects cognition, ensuring the care we deliver stays grounded in the best available evidence.
